Genie Opener Logic Board Repair: The Baytown Owner’s Guide

Genie opener logic board repair in Baytown typically runs $120-$320 installed, and we stock the most common boards for same-day replacement. Most Genie units from the last fifteen years use one of three board footprints, and we carry all of them on the truck. You’ll know the board has failed when the wall button works but the remote does nothing, or when the opener starts and stops with no pattern.

Call (936) 246-0813

Baytown’s humidity and the occasional power surge off the Gulf Coast are hard on these boards. We’ve replaced dozens out in the Brownwood neighborhood alone, usually in homes where the opener was installed in the late 2000s and has simply cooked through one too many summers.

Which Genie Models This Applies To

The logic board sits inside the power head, usually behind a snap-off cover near the light lens. Genie has used three main board families: the Intellicode series (pre-2012, blue or green relay blocks), the QuietLift/Excelerator II boards (2012-2019, single integrated relay), and the current Aladdin Connect-compatible units (2020-present, with the Wi-Fi module socket).

Check the label on the back or side of your opener for the model number. A 1022, 1024, or 2024 QuietLift takes a 38874R or 38874R.S. An older ChainLift 800 or 1000 likely needs a 36163R.S. The Excelerator II units are the trickiest - they look identical to the first-generation Excelerator but use a completely different board with a 6-pin molex instead of 4-pin. We’ve seen homeowners order the wrong one twice before calling us.

We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Genie. We stock both OEM boards and a quality aftermarket line built to the same spec. For units under warranty, we use OEM. For older openers, the aftermarket board saves forty to sixty dollars and carries the same 90-day coverage from us.

Signs Your Genie Opener Logic Board Is Failing

  • Remote works intermittently, wall button works fine. The radio receiver sits on the logic board, and when the solder joints crack from heat cycling, the signal drops. In Baytown, we see this most in garages that face west and bake all afternoon.
  • Opener runs for two seconds, then reverses. The travel limit sensors on the board are misreading voltage. Sometimes it’s the board, sometimes it’s the limit switches themselves. We test both before we quote.
  • Light flashes ten times, door won’t close. On Intellicode units, this is the safety beam fault code. If the beams are aligned and clean but the code persists, the board’s safety circuit has failed.
  • Opener starts on its own or at odd hours. The logic board is sending phantom signals. This is more common after a lightning strike or grid surge, which we get plenty of near the Ship Channel.
  • No response to any input, but outlet has power. The transformer on the board may have blown, or the main capacitor has vented. Either way, the board needs replacement. Do not open the power head to check - the capacitor holds a lethal charge even when unplugged.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Price Range in Baytown
Genie Opener Logic Board Repair / Replacement $120 - $320

The range depends on three things: board type (OEM vs. aftermarket), whether we need to reprogram remotes and keypads, and if the surge damaged other components like the transformer or capacitor. We quote the full price before we touch a screw. No surprises on the bill.

Every board replacement includes removal and disposal of the old unit, installation and testing of the new board, reprogramming of up to three remotes, and a full cycle test of the door. The work is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise, stated in writing on every invoice. If something’s not right, we come back. No paperwork to file, no argument.

We also honor our standing offers: $50 off any repair over $250, and a permanent 5% discount for seniors and veterans.

DIY or Call Us?

There is one safe thing you can check yourself: unplug the opener for two minutes, then plug it back in. This clears a temporary logic lockup maybe one time in ten. If that doesn’t restore normal operation, the board needs professional replacement.

We do not recommend opening the power head. The capacitor inside stores enough charge to cause serious injury even with the unit unplugged. Beyond that, Genie boards require precise reprogramming of travel limits and force settings. Get the force wrong and the door can crush what’s underneath or damage the top section.

We carry the common Genie boards on every truck, along with LiftMaster and Chamberlain equivalents. Most Baytown jobs are finished in a single visit. Call (936) 246-0813 and we’ll quote it flat, do it right, and stand behind it.
